Membership Requirements
Membership is open to persons with an interest in rocks, minerals, gems and all related areas of crafts or collecting. To become a member:
Attend one General or Social Meeting
General Meetings: First Friday of each month, 8:00 PM at the SFGMS Clubhouse 4134 Judah Street, San Francisco, CA (between 46th and 47th Avenues)
Social General Meetings include, but are not limited to:
- Installation Dinner - January
- Club Open House - May
- Annual Show - August
- Christmas Party - December
Social Meetings are held at different dates and times, and sometimes at different locations than General Meetings. Call the Clubhouse (415-564-4230) to verify date, time, and location of an upcoming social meeting.
Your attendance must be recorded in the guest book to meet the requirement.
Attend one Membership Meeting
Membership meetings are held once a month on the Monday following the General or Social Meeting at 7:30 PM at the Clubhouse. (verify this when you attend your first General or Social meeting).
Applications must have two sponsors.
Sponsors may be any regular member of at least one year's standing, and must accompany the applicant(s) to the membership meeting. There are always members at our General, Social, or Membership Meetings who arw happy to sponsor you - just show-up, introduce yourself, express your interests and you'll find your sponsors.
Pay the initiation fee and membership dues
A one-time initiation fee of $30.00 is collected with your application. The regular annual membership dues are $25.00. (The total cost for a single Regular Membership at the time you join would be $55.00). Associate Memberships, are $20.00/year. Junior Memberships are $7.00/year. The initiation fee is waived on both associate and junior membership applications, but junior membership must be associated with a regular membership. (One regular membership is required for each family group).
Members in good standing are entitled to use the shop and receive instruction in various disciplines of the hobby. The nominal charge for shop use is $2.00 per shop session. You must wear your membership badge while using the shop. (There is also a very nominal fee for the use of some specialized equipment, like the large diamond saws).
